A First Edition, second impression reading copy of this early collection of Rupert's adventures written and illustrated by Mary Tourtel.
This is the first volume of Rupert's adventures to be published by Sampson Low - the first printing was issued in 1924 priced at 5 shillings; this copy is priced three shillings and sixpence and is the 1927 reprinting. Stories include "Rupert And The Magic Toy Man"; "Rupert And The Princess"; "Rupert At School" and "Rupert And The Old Miser".
Book Condition - Fair: Hardback, 8vo (approx 9.5 inches / 25 cm tall), unpaginated (194 pages) with three full colour plates (two of the plates are in Good condition; the plate accompanying "The Old Miser" is loose with significant edge wear but no loss to the actual picture) and four pages of "Animals At Work" at the rear.
Heavy general wear and fading / browning to the original boards and spine, front board and spine tipped-on illustrations soiled and rubbed, spine strip loose and only just attached to the rear board, rear hinge very weak and held by small amount of webbing, some moderate internal separation but no detached text pages.
No previous ownership inscriptions, significant foxing to Title Page but very little further internal foxing, printed on soft paper with some creasing and very short closed edge tears (a couple 1 - 2 inch / 2.5 - 5 cm closed edge tears have been repaired with archive quality film - no loss), light to moderate soiling throughout (occasionally significant) but still in an easily readable condition.
