A Good copy of this First Edition, first printing of H. G. Wells' illustrated guide to war-gaming.

Comprises six sections ("Of The Legendary Past", "The Beginnings Of Modern Little Warfare", "The Rules", "The Battle Of Hook's Farm", "Extensions And Amplifications Of Little War" and "Ending With A Sort Of Challenge") followed by an Appendix ("Little Wars And Kriegspiel").

Description:

Hardback, 8vo (approx 9 inches / 23 cm tall), 111 pages with sixteen pages of mono photographs in Good to Very Good condition and mono illustrations to the text.

Book Condition - Good:

Moderate to significant general wear and foxing / soiling to the original illustrated maroon boards and spine (very small amounts of cloth loss to spine extremities with short joint splits adjoining the rear board, small amounts of underlying boards visible at corner tips), spine cloth / lettering heavily faded and only just legible, front board lettering very clear but tipped-on colour photograph rubbed with a small amount of loss to the top left corner.

Securely bound with hinges fully intact, owner's signature on the front free endpaper (dated 1913), light to moderate browning / foxing to text block edges, moderate foxing as far as page 10 but thereafter only intermittent mostly light (very occasionally moderate) internal foxing, overall internally Good on lightly browned paper in a very clean condition.

No dust jacket.
