A First Edition reading copy of this history of the Shanghai paper hunt from its founding in the early 1860s.
Complete with all six maps of the riding country around Shanghai on thin and fragile paper in Good condition (some light to moderate edge / fold creasing and a couple short closed tears). Large folding frontispiece plate of the Christmas Day 1929 hunt meet complete but heavily repaired with document tape.
Book Condition - Fair: Hardback, 4to (approx 11 inches / 28.5 cm tall), 173 pages with folding maps and mono photographs / illustrations.
Significant to heavy general wear and fading to the original pink boards and spine (heavy wear to spine extremities with one inch / 2cm joint split to top of spine), spine heavily faded, front board gilt illustration faded but still clear and bright.
Securely bound with hinges fully intact, foxing to the text block's untrimmed fore and bottom edges, owner's undated name and address on front free endpaper, intermittent light to moderate foxing (most notable to the plates and adjoining pages), occasional light to moderate soiling and paper creasing but mostly clean and clear in an easily readable condition throughout.
No dust jacket.
