A First Edition, first printing of Lord Dunsany's debut collection of short stories.
Lord Dunsany (Edward Plunkett, 18th Baron of Dunsany) was one of the first authors to enter the genre of fantasy writing and his work influenced several prominent authors (most notably H. P. Lovecraft, Arthur C. Clarke, Ursula K. Le Guin and Michael Moorcock).
Book Condition - Good: Hardback, 8vo (approx 8 inches / 20 cm tall), vii + 94 pages with eight tissue-guarded mono illustrations.
Significant general wear, rubbing and edge browning to the original grey paper-covered boards and cloth spine (edges worn with underlying boards visible, three short joint splits and fraying to spine cloth with top edge trimmed), securely bound with rear hinge intact but front hinge cracked with a narrow strip of webbing visible, owner's signature on front free endpaper, moderate browning / foxing to endpapers and untrimmed text block edges, light foxing to prelims and last few pages at rear but otherwise only occasional light internal foxing, overall internally Good on lightly browned paper in a clean and clear condition.
