Thank you for your interest but these books have now been sold

An attractively rebound translation of Alexander Von Humboldt's classic work on nature and astronomy. "Kosmos" was originally published in German in five volumes between 1845 and 1862 - Volumes 1 & 2 of this set are the Eighth (translated) Edition published in 1850, Volume 3 is the 1852 First English Edition.

The Preface in Volume 1 seeks to differentiate this Longman, Green translation by stating the Bohn edition omitted several passages "sometimes amounting to pages" and that (except for one very minor correction) these have been included here; the Editor's Preface also states "This translation of Cosmos was undertaken in compliance with the wish of Baron von Humboldt".

Previously owned by Frederick Barker [1808-1882], the second Anglican Bishop of Sydney (and first Anglican Primate of Australia) with his armorial bookplate on the front pastedowns. Frederick Barker served as Bishop of Sydney from 1854 to 1882, these volumes were presented to him by friends in Liverpool where he had served nineteen years at St Mary's Church, Edge Hill before a brief spell as Vicar of Baslow, Derbyshire.
