Original copies of issues 1 to 56 of Cope's Tobacco Plant journal.
Each copy comprises twelve pages with pro-smoking / tobacco-related articles and poems with illustrations, cartoons and advertisements (November 1872 and February 1874 have four page supplements), also includes a couple tipped-on colour advertisements.
Half bound in calf and cloth boards which are heavily damp stained and worn.
Hardback, Folio (approx 13.5 x 8.5 inches / 34 x 22cm), 680 pages.
Book Condition - Externally - Fair; Internally - Mostly Good to Very Good (September 1872 Issue only "Fair"):
Heavy external wear, rubbing and soiling with joint splits and some loss to calf spine and corner tips, gilt spine lettering dulled but still clear and bright, boards firmly attached but front hinge paper cracked with cords visible
Text block sound with no loose pages, owner's name to the top edge of a small number of front pages (previous name trimmed from the top edge of Issue 1), a couple instances of advertisements having been carefully cut out, very light to moderate paper creasing and occasional paper edge wear, intermittent mostly light internal foxing / soiling (occasionally moderate to significant) but overall very clean and easily readable.
