A Very good fourth impression of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel.
First printing of the "second state" with no mention of other Ian Fleming titles at the front and no advertisements for other books at the rear and with a review for "The Diamond Smugglers" on the unclipped dust jacket's rear flap ("The Diamond Smugglers" is also mentioned at the bottom of the rear panel).
First published in 1953 with this fourth impression issued in 1957.
Hardback, 12mo (approx 7.5 inches / 19.5 cm tall), 218 pages.
Book Condition - Very Good:
Light general wear to the original black boards and spine, red spine lettering and red heart on front board very clear, securely bound with hinges fully intact and text block sound.
No previous ownership inscriptions, light to moderate browning / foxing to text block edges, intermittent internal foxing to paper edges (most notable to the extreme top edge), some light reading creases to the bottom portion of a small number of pages and a couple tiny paper edge nicks but overall internally Very Good on lightly browned paper in a very clean and clear condition throughout.
Jacket Condition - Good:
First printing of the second-state "playing card" dust jacket. Light to moderate edge wear with small areas of surface rubbing and tiny amounts of loss to extremities, some very short short closed tears / edge nicks, moderate general browning with sunning to spine, light soiling to the front panel but moderate soiling to the rear panel, not price clipped (price = "13 shillings and sixpence").
Total weight with packaging just under 475g.
