A Good First British Edition, first printing.
Published in Holland in 1947 as "Het Achterhuis" followed by France and Germany in 1950. Initially rejected by British publishers the book was first translated into English and published by Constellation Books with a small print run in 1952 - American editions being issued the same year by Doubleday and Random House. The British edition was unsuccessful and the title was out of print in the UK by 1953 before gaining international recognition as a result of the Pulitzer Prize winning play (1955) and a motion picture (1959).
Book Condition - Good: Hardback, xv + 281 pages and four mono plates in Very Good condition.
Light to moderate general wear to the original green boards and spine, gilt spine lettering faded but still clear, front board gilt flower illustration clear and bright, securely bound with hinges fully intact, no previous ownership inscriptions, light to moderate browning to endpapers and text block edges, internally very clean and clear throughout.
Jacket Condition - Good: Moderate edge wear and chipping with small amounts of loss to extremities, light to moderate general soiling and browning / foxing, spine faded, not price clipped. Enclosed in a protective library cover as photographed.
